TED roundup, part 3

Time for another TED talk video roundup!  Here are some of the nutrition and health related videos I’ve been liking lately.

1.  Kelly McGonigal: How to Make Stress Your Friend

This video could not have come accross my video feed at a better time.  I’ve had lots of stress recently and I’m going to have a whole lot more, so I’m going to keep this video in mind.  I’ll probably watch it a few more times (already watched it twice) so I can fully absorb it.

2. Petter Attia: Is the obesity crisis hiding a bigger problem?

When  I first watched this video, I had to send it to other RDs and interns so we could discuss it.  It’s an interesting theory about how the current belief between obesity and incidence of insulin resistance might be wrong.  Attia opens up about his personal experiences of judging a patient for being overweight and his own diagnosis.  “If the conventional wisdom about nutrition had failed me, was it possible that it was failing someone else?”  Interesting theory and I look forward to looking into the research.

3.  James Randi: Homeopathy, quackery and fraud

James Randi of the James Randi Educational Foundation gives a really good talk about homeopathy, quackery and fraud.  I understand that when people become scared or sad, there’s a strong possibility they’ll cling to the first thing that offers hope, but that can be really dangerous.   This is a talk I wish everyone would watch.
